The End of an Era

While summer will linger on for another three weeks, Labor Day marks the “unofficial” end of summer. During this holiday weekend, you may find ourselves enjoying the last “hurrah” of summer, with its quintessential picnics, pool parties and camp outs. Yet fall is taking a stand. It starts out gradually at first. You’ll see hints of fall in the bakery department of every grocery store in the form of crisp caramel apples and fresh apple cider donuts.

Pumpkins are next on the scene, from warm pumpkin-flavored drinks and desserts to the actual pumpkins themselves. Despite summer-like temperatures, the paradigm shifts after Labor Day. Suddenly, we find ourselves drawn to the vast array of pumpkins that are available to bring that much needed pop of color to the exterior of our homes. From cinderella pumpkins to jack-be-littles, there are a myriad of options when it comes to bringing fall home for the holidays.

Along the way, you’ll discover Halloween decor and costumes galore. Whether you prefer the barebones aesthetic of a 12 foot skeleton or a family of ghosts to illuminate your yard that frightful night, the possibilities are endless.

The same can be said for the costumes. Picking the perfect costume is probably the biggest decision of the season. I’ve already seen parents and grandparents alike, eyeing up the costume selection for their little trick-or-treaters. If you prefer something homemade over store bought, there are countless ideas on the internet, covering everything from the classics to the creative.

As we teeter between summer and fall, we can hold onto our memories of those carefree days as summer begins to fade into the sunset. In its place will be a new season with its own colors, flavors, and fun.

Happy Labor Day!
